Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at first, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming assortment of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, and a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
