Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

While it seems difficult at first, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming array of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
