Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players can get confused. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi low provides an overwhelming array of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players battling for the high hand, along with many shooting for the low hand.
