Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in just about every poker game.
The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem difficult at the start, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi low provides an exciting collection of betting possibilities and because you have many players shooting for the high hand, and a few trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi-low.
