Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

Although it seems complex at the outset, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many players trying for the high hand, as well as many trying for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
